WHERE TO START

Before you call anyone, start by observing how yourself and others will use the rooms you are thinking of renovating.

Answer the following questions and keep a diary for about 1 week

BATHROOM: 

How many people use the room ?
 
How many at the same time ? 

What sort of storage do you need ?   e.g. towels, makeup, medicines etc 

Do you need a bath...  Or is a larger shower or spa more appealing ?

KITCHEN:

Are you the only chef using the kitchen ?

What else happens in your kitchen ? – phone, homework, entertaining friends, light meals, main meals
 
What sort of storage do you need ? Food (dry), fridge/freezer space, crockery, cutlery, pots & pans, utensils, serving dishes & platters, kitchen papers etc etc etc...
 
How much preparation room do you need – bench space ?
 
Do you need display room for treasured items ?
 
What appliances will you need ? 

What style will suit you and your home ? 

What materials will fit best into your lifestyle ?

LAUNDRY:

How often do you wash clothes ? 

Do you hand wash ? 

Do you iron in the laundry ? 

Are the dirty clothes stored in the laundry ? 

Do you need a broom cupboard in the laundry ? 

What kind of washer and dryer do you have ? 

Do detergents and other chemicals need to be locked away ?
